The go Homes. Merrimac building

Description

The GoHome’s are a type of housing scheme that push the building codes to the limits in order to provide affordable housing. They are cooperatives in which the space ownership is allway individual.
In Merrimac the site was zoned for a single familly residence, but, in order to make the project affordable,there needed to be 4 parties living in it. Hence, the design consist on 4 “suites” that are not large enough to acquire the autonomy of a “unit” since they only work in conjunction with a shared kitchen. The shared kitchen is not much part of the ideal of communal cooking and eating, but because this was the only way to slip the
building into the R1 zone.
